The trial of Shadrim

I, Merandina, Soldier of the Manticore Company of Waterdeep, do hereby give testiment that the following is true according to my perspective of the events that took place in the Halls of Justice. I was ordered by the Lords of Waterdeep to present the accused one Shadrim of Waterdeep to the Halls of Justice for trial before the High Justicar of Waterdeep. I escorted him from the dungeon bound to the Halls of Justice.

Armonius says 'leave'
Armonius peers at Shadrim.
A paladin of Tyr walks in.
You say 'I beg your pardon Sir Knight.'
A paladin of Tyr walks east.
You say 'I am bringing him for his trial.'
Armonius says 'ow sorry'
You say 'As requested by Sir Dreymor.'
Shadrim glares at Armonius.
Armonius bows before you.
Shadrim walks in from the west.

Jergen, Justice of Defense shuffles over to Shadrim's side.
You say to Dreymor 'Sir Knight I bring before you the thief Shadrim for his trial.'
Armonius rises up.
Jergen, Justice of Defense drops more papers on the floor but doesn't seem to notice.
Armonius kneels down.
Dreymor nods at you.
Dreymor says 'very well'
Dreymor helps pick up the papers.
The lord high justicar says 'I now call the trial to order.'
A soldier of Waterdeep pulls Shadrim into position by his bound hands.
Dreymor kneels down.
The lord high justicar asks 'who will speak for the city of Waterdeep?'
Dreymor says 'I'
Dreymor rises up.
The lord high justicar nods at Dreymor.
The lord high justicar asks 'Who will speak for the accused?'
Jergen, Justice of Defense squeaks, 'I do M'lord. Jergen, Justice of the Defense.'
Dreymor peers around him.
Armonius looks around curiously.
Dreymor smiles.
A paladin of Tyr nods at Jergen, Justice of Defense.
Jergen, Justice of Defense bows his head graciously.
I looked at Jergen and this is what I saw.
A thin young man with a balding head and a monacle in one eyes. An armful of papers and a quick stride to his step.
The lord high justicar nods at Dreymor.
The lord high justicar says 'Very well then. The city of Waterdeep may speak first.'
Dreymor says to the lord high justicar 'thank you sir'
Dreymor stands and faces the court.
Dreymor says 'I Dreymor O'Varien accuse Shadrim of most hanest crimes'
Dreymor says 'Of wich include theft, attempted murder, and aiding and abetting a know criminal'
Eltsac walks in from the south.
You say to Eltsac 'Quiet mage.'
Eltsac bows deeply.
Eltsac nods.
You say to Eltsac 'Proceedings like this should not be interupted. Take a seat.'
Eltsac nods.
Eltsac sits down.
Dreymor says 'I have personly heard many calls from the guards of this fair city yelling that they have found the thief Shadrim'
Dreymor says 'I call apon the guard of the court to please testify'
A soldier of Waterdeep blushes and clears her throat.
Dreymor says 'Please tell us all that you saw mam'
You say 'Its not just me Sir Knight.'
Dalvyn walks in from the south.
Lorelie walks in from the south.
You say 'Its the other soldiers as well.'
You say 'In the barracks we talk about this thief all the time.'
Tibin walks in from the south.
You say 'Hes actually killed a few of my men at arms.'
Armonius whispers, "have a seat"
Dalvyn nods at Armonius.
Lorelie has a quiet seat.
Dalvyn sits down.

You say 'The patrols have been working hard to try and protect the citizen of Waterdeep from this thief'
Jergen, Justice of Defense shuffles through is papers and looks decidedly nervous.
You say 'The merchants have complained about loss of gold and goods.'
Tibin sits quietly in the back.

You say 'Several citizen have actually died to his knife.'
Dreymor asks 'Did you say killed a guard? Of this fair city?'
Dreymor exclaims 'How awful!'
You say 'Often when on duty I can hear the far off cries of someone being attacked and can never make it there in time.'
Jergen, Justice of Defense stands, 'My Lord I object. The paladin is beign subjective.'
Dreymor sighs loudly.
You ask Dreymor 'Is there anything specific you want to know Sir Knight?'
The lord high justicar says to Jergen, Justice of Defense 'objection overruled.'
Dreymor says to you 'no'
The lord high justicar says to Dreymor 'It is your duty to ask questions Sir Dreymor.'
Dreymor says 'Please go on if there is more to this awful story.'
Dreymor nods at the lord high justicar.
Dreymor asks 'Did you witness some of these most evil acts?'
You say 'Aye Sir. Once.'
Dreymor asks 'Can you recount it for us?'
You say 'I had the misfortune to fight him. He fled when others arrived though and we were not able to take him into custody.'
Dreymor says 'I see'
Dreymor says 'I have no more questions at this moment sir'
Dreymor says to Jergen, Justice of Defense 'You may have the witness'
Jergen, Justice of Defense stands up and starts to walk over to the witness, but trips over the chair leg.
Jergen, justice of defense exclaims 'OUCH!'
Shadrim shakes his head.
Dreymor takes his seat.
the lord high justicar motions for Jergen, Justice of Defense to speak.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'Oops. Er Sorry, M'lord.'
A soldier of Waterdeep tries not to laugh.
Jergen, Justice of Defense walks over to the soldier, dusting himself off and tryign to hide his newly acquired limp.
Veritas flys in in from the south upon a grey griffon.

Jergen, justice of defense says 'It must be very difficult with the current rise in crime in the city streets to keep up with it all.'

You say 'Yes sir there is talk in the barracks of recruiting more soldiers.'
Armonius blinks at you in disbelief.
Jergen, Justice of Defense nods, 'That's wonderful.'

You say 'What with that thief Raven and Shadrim running around.'
You say 'And that mage changing sex on all in sight.'
Jergen, justice of defense asks 'Now tell me, Soldier. Do you know the name of every thief in Waterdeep?'
You say to Jergen, Justice of Defense 'No sir.'
Jergen, justice of defense asks 'Do you know the face of every thief in Waterdeep?'
You say to Jergen, Justice of Defense 'No sir. Waterdeep is a very big city.'
Jergen, Justice of Defense nods, 'Indeed it is. I'm sure you must be ready for a raise.'
Caius walks in from the south.

Jergen, justice of defense asks 'Tell me, Soldier. Do you have any fellow enforcers who know the faces and names of all the thieves of Waterdeep?'
You say to Jergen, Justice of Defense 'A raise is always good Sir.'
Dreymor says 'Objection, this is irrelivent to the matter.'
Caius sits down.
Rud, the bay horse sits down.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'I'm leading to a point, My Lord.'
A soldier of Waterdeep waits for the High Justicar's statement.
Gralth looks at an owl.
The lord high justicar says to Jergen, Justice of Defense 'Quickly please, council.'
Dreymor says 'The guard has clearly pointed out shadrim'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'My Lord, My questions are directed to the Witness, not the prosecutor'
Jergen, justice of defense asks 'Tell me, Soldier. Do you have any fellow enforcers who know the faces and names of all the thieves of Waterdeep?'
The lord high justicar says to Dreymor 'Please withhold your comments until it is your turn to speak.'
A soldier of Waterdeep swings her head from the scrawny prosecutor to the Lord High Justicar and back again.
You say to Jergen, Justice of Defense 'No one could not possibly know all the names of the thieves of Waterdeep.'
You say to Jergen, Justice of Defense 'But ...'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'And let me ask'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'You one more thing'
Jergen, justice of defense asks 'Isn't it well known, that thieves do from time to time go about in disguise?'
Aedwyn walks in from the south.
You say to Jergen, Justice of Defense 'I guess so Sir.'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'So, here we have my client'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'A man who has been accused of a crime and who has paid for that crime with a sentence of imprisonment'
Aedwyn sits down.
You exclaim 'But Sir!'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'And he is well known to the thieves guild, so he tells me.'
You exclaim 'Shadrim is known to us all!'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'Is it not possible, just possible'
The lord high justicar says to you 'Quiet please, answer questions only.'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'That a thief may have taken his guise for these illicit deeds'
A soldier of Waterdeep subsides resentfully.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'That in the dark of night'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'and in the heat of battle'
Jergen, justice of defense asks 'Mistakes can be made?'
Jergen, justice of defense asks 'Isn't it possible?'
Jergen, Justice of Defense peers at the soldier through the monacle.
A soldier of Waterdeep mutters something under her breath and nods very slightly.
Dreymor says 'Objection. Sir we could what if all day long at this rate.'
Selune: yes.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'Please answer the question, soldier.'
A soldier of Waterdeep mutters 'yes'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'Thank you. I'm finished, My'lord.'
The lord high justicar asks Dreymor 'Justice must be served and all must be heard. Have you any other witnesses?'
Jergen, Justice of Defense shuffles back to Shadrim, tracking papers as he goes.
Dreymor stands up slowly
Dreymor says to the lord high justicar 'Yes sir I do'
Jergen, Justice of Defense whispers to his client.
The lord high justicar nods at Dreymor.
Dreymor says 'I call apon the priest Caius to the stand'
Lorelie gets travellers rations from a tooled leather backpack.
Lorelie eats travellers rations.
Caius looks at Dreymor.
The lord high justicar says to Caius 'Answer all questions truthfully.'
Caius nods.
Caius rises up.
Gralth looks at Dreymor.
Lorelie leans over and murmurs something very softly to Dalvyn.
Gralth looks at Shadrim.
Eltsac looks at the lord high justicar.
A paladin of Tyr mutters a brief prayer and ends it pointing to Caius
Eltsac looks at Lorelie.
Caius smiles.
Lorelie slips away quietly.
Lorelie rises up.

Dreymor asks 'Sir have you seen or heard of the accused?'
Shadrim whispers to Jergen.
Dreymor walks around to the room slowly.
Caius looks at Dreymor and asks, 'You're speaking to me, Right?'
Dreymor smiles.
Dreymor says to Caius 'Yes sir I am.'
Caius says to Dreymor 'Aye. I have seen him many times'
Gralth looks at Aedwyn.
Dreymor asks Caius 'And what have you seen him do on these ocations?'
Caius says to Dreymor 'I have witnessed him repeatedly steal from my friends while I try to talk with them'
Dreymor asks Caius 'And what did you do when you so this?'
Caius says to Dreymor 'There was little I could do. He ran when I tried to confront him. We I gave up, he returned to do it again'
Caius says 'err When I gave...'
Dreymor asks Caius 'Did you say he ran and then turned around and tried to do it again?'
Caius nods at Dreymor.
Caius says 'He left and returned to do it twice more'
Dreymor asks Caius 'So you got a very good look at him, right?'
Caius says 'Aye'
Caius says 'I don't know another that looks like him'
Dreymor asks Caius 'Sir can you point out the offendent if he is in this room?'
Caius points at Shadrim.
Dreymor moves closer to the stand.
Dreymor says to Caius 'Are you certain, without a doubt, sure of this.'
Dreymor says to Caius 'Be it none that'
Caius nods and says, 'There was others that witnessed the event I speak of'
Dreymor says to Caius 'A mans life could be on the line.'
Dreymor raises an eyebrow.
Dreymor says to Caius 'Please name them'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'Objection Your honor Bringing new witnesses at this stage is unfair.'
Caius looks at the lord high justicar.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'Let me rephase, it is unjust, My Lord.'
Dreymor says 'Your honor I am not bringing them to the stand just merrly pointing them out'
The lord high justicar says to Jergen, Justice of Defense 'You will get a chance to ask questions of them, objection overruled.'
Jergen, Justice of Defense settles back down, nearly tippling a cup of water.
Dreymor says to Caius 'Please point them out if you will.'
Jergen, Justice of Defense scratches something on a piece of paper and slides it over to Shadrim.
Shadrim looks at the paper.
Caius says 'None are here'
Veritas raises an eyebrow.
Dreymor asks Caius 'None of them are here sir?'
Caius says 'There was a young one that I didn't know at the time'
Caius nods at Dreymor.
Dreymor nods.
The lord high justicar says to Dreymor 'Lord Tyr has accepted the truth of this persons statement. You need not have other witnesses to support it.'
Dreymor turns away from the stand.
Dreymor says 'I have no more questions sir'
Dreymor takes his seat.
The lord high justicar says to Jergen, Justice of Defense 'You may speak to the witness.'
Jergen, Justice of Defense rises this time more careful of his steps, but instead knocking ALL of his papers on the floor.
Jergen, Justice of Defense sighs.
Jergen, Justice of Defense shuffles over to the witness.
Caranthil walks in from the south.
A war dog walks in from the south.
Jergen, justice of defense asks 'You say that you witnessed this man committing the crime of Thievery in your presence?'
Caius says to Jergen, Justice of Defense 'Aye'
Armonius motions for the Elf to sit.
Jergen, justice of defense asks 'How is this man known to you?'
Jergen, Justice of Defense glances at Shadrim then back to the witness.
Caius says 'I am familiar with his face. I know his name since others call him by it'
Jergen, Justice of Defense wipes his monacle on his robe sleeve, 'I see. And before this incident of thievery that you witnessed was he known to you?'
Caius nods.
Shadrim raises an eyebrow.
The lord high justicar says to Caius 'For the spell please speak.'
Caius says 'I knew of him before because of previous events'
Jergen, justice of defense asks 'And have you, before this incident which you speak of, had any personal feelings toward my client?'
A soldier of Waterdeep looks from Caius to Shadrim
Caius says 'Yes'
Jergen, Justice of Defense replaces the monacle and peers at Caius, 'Please remember that we stand before Tyr, tell the court how you felt about Shadrim.'
The lord high justicar says to Jergen, Justice of Defense 'The witness' words are accepted as truth, remember you need not question that.'
Caius says 'I didn't hate him, but I didn't like him either'
Caius says 'I first became aware of him on a night at the Market Square'
Jergen, Justice of Defense nods knowingly, 'I see. I have no more questions. Your honor.'
Caius looks at Shadrim.
Jergen, Justice of Defense shuffles off to sit next to her client.
The lord high justicar asks 'Does anyone have something they wish to add?'
Jergen, Justice of Defense shuffles off to sit next to HIS client.
Veritas rises up.
Dreymor says 'Your Honor for my next witness I call apon the High Paladin of our Lord Tyr, Sir Armonius'
Veritas says 'I do your honor'
Veritas bows deeply.

The lord high justicar raises an eyebrow at Armonius.

Dreymor asks Armonius 'Sir Armonius you are well known through out the lands are you not?'
Phlow nods at you.

Armonius says 'I do spread our Lords name to most I meet yes.'
Armonius smiles.
Dreymor asks Armonius 'And have you ever came across the accused?'
Armonius looks at Shadrim.
Armonius says 'I have known the accused before I was even a paladin of Lord Tyr.'
Armonius says 'we exchanged words in the training area we practiced in.'
Jergen, Justice of Defense looks over at Shadrim a bit surprised.
Shadrim squints his eyes to look closer at Armonius, then turns to Jergen.
Dreymor asks Armonius 'Before you were a Paladin?'
Dreymor asks Armonius 'That was a very long time ago was it not?'
Armonius says to Dreymor 'yes, we were both there...he was useing some technique to shove his dagger in the dummies back...'
Dreymor asks Armonius 'And you still reconice him to this day?'
Armonius says 'he hasnt changed a bit.'
Armonius peers at Shadrim.
Dreymor asks Armonius 'Sir could you point him out for us please?'
Armonius says 'I can.'
Armonius points at Shadrim.
Shadrim writes something on another piece of paper and slides it to Jergen.
Dreymor nods.
Dreymor says 'thank you'
Phlow rises up.
Phlow walks south.
Dreymor asks Armonius 'And you said he was using some strange manner of attacking?'
Armonius says to Dreymor 'yes, it was not a honorable way to fight to say the least.'
Dreymor asks Armonius 'Could you discribe this for me please?'
Armonius says 'he would basically sneak behind his target and lunge his dagger into there back by surprise.'
Dreymor asks Armonius 'Have you ever seen this manner of attack used sense then by other individuals?'
Armonius says 'the look on his face was anguish enough for me, he seemed to enjoy it a little to much.'
Dreymor nods.
Armonius says 'I have seen it yes, but not on any citizens of waterdeep.'
Dreymor raises an eyebrow.
Dreymor asks Armonius 'Then whom sir?'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'WAIT I object'
Armonius raises an eyebrow at Jergen, Justice of Defense.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'I object to the witness' belief of what the defendant felt or did not feel. Unless he also has the power to read minds.'
The lord high justicar says to Armonius 'Jergen is correct. Please confine your testemony to what you have witnessed.'
Armonius nods.
Jergen, Justice of Defense sits down again looking a bit triumphant.
Shadrim smiles at Jergen, Justice of Defense.
Dreymor says 'Be it known that as Paladins we have special abilities to sense the intentions if you would of others.'
Armonius says 'I personally have not witness with my own eyes Shadrim attack anyone, but I have heard his name called out by the guards in call for help against him...I have ran to there side and he would have already done his dirty work.'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'But this one WAS NOT a paladin at the time, M'lord'
Dreymor asks Armonius 'Was this a time when you were a Paladin sir?'
The lord high justicar says to Dreymor 'A persons intention does not mean that he has acted upon that intention and cannot be used as evidence.'
Dreymor nods.
Armonius says to Dreymor 'aye, i was a paladin during these times of strife against the defendent.'
Dreymor asks Armonius 'Then sir have you heard others talk of the accused in these manners?'
Jergen, justice of defense exclaims 'Objection HEARSAY!'
The lord high justicar says to Dreymor 'Remember to confine your questions to what the witness has seen.'
Dreymor nods.
Dreymor says 'Yes your Honor'
Armonius says to Dreymor 'I have, as a matter of fact Lady Lorelie witnessed him Kill a citizen of Berdusk just today, she reported it to me once she returned from her trip.'
Shadrim writes something on another piece of paper and slides it to Jergen.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'Objection again M'lord'
Dreymor says 'I have no further questions Youn Honor.'
Jergen, justice of defense exclaims 'Hearsay!'
Dreymor says 'on the contrary.'
Tibin stiffles a cough.
The lord high justicar says 'very well. Mention of the Lady Lorelie will be ignored as she is not present to testify.'
Armonius says 'Lorelie is a very respected citizen of Waterdeep.'
Armonius nods at the lord high justicar.
Jergen, Justice of Defense nods respectfully.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'Your Honor I have no questions for this witness.'
Armonius smiles.
Dreymor says 'We as Paladins patrol the city much like the guards do. We see and hear what they do.'
Armonius asks 'may I step down?'
The lord high justicar asks 'Jergan, have you anything you wish to say before I pass sentance?'
The lord high justicar nods at Armonius.
Dreymor takes his seat.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'Yes You're honor, as a Man's life hangs on the balance of Justice.'
Armonius steps down and takes his seat.

Dreymor sits down.
Jergen, Justice of Defense takes center stage, tucking his arms into the large sleeves and crossing them on his chest.
Jergen, Justice of Defense paces for a moment, 'Your Honor, ladies and gentlemen of the Court. You have brought before a tragic story.'
Shadrim jots a small note on a piece of paper and leaves if for Jergen to read when he returns.
Jergen, Justice of Defense sighs.
Dreymor looks on with the greatest of interest.
Eltsac looks at Jergen, Justice of Defense.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'Shadrim is that tragic story. He has stood accused and imprisoned for a crime.'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'His name and his crime well known in all the land.'
Dreymor looks at Shadrim.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'To both good and bad. Our good but overworked soldier has shared with us the possibility'
Jergen, Justice of Defense smiles at the soldier.
Eltsac looks at Jergen, Justice of Defense.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'That others could have impersonated my client, causing guards and citizens alike to mistake him in deeds done in his name.'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'Not one witness brought here today, can show that this man willfully and with malice attacked another living soul.'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'It is true'
Jergen, Justice of Defense shakes his head sadly.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'That this man is a thief.'
Veritas sighs loudly.
Jergen, Justice of Defense looks at Shadrim.
Shadrim nods.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'There can be no doubt that he has a horrible and difficult past to overcome.'
Tibin frowns, looking at Jergen, Justice of Defense.
Jergen, justice of defense says 'However, my client was brought here accused of not just thievery, but attempted murder and aiding and abetting a criminal.'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'These have not been proven in this court beyond a reasonable doubt.'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'Instead, only names shouted into the night, cries of confused and hurt people...but no facts. No eveidence.'
Jergen, justice of defense says 'punish him if you must for the crime which you can see, which he knows, he committed. But do not let vigilante justice take the meaning of true justice from the land.'
Jergen, Justice of Defense bows at the waist. Bows low the Lord Justice, and takes his seat.
The lord high justicar nods at Jergen, Justice of Defense.
The lord high justicar asks Dreymor 'Your final words now please?'
Dreymor slowly stands, dusts off his armour and slowly walks to stand in front of the court.
Dreymor rises up.
Dreymor says 'Your Honor and ladies and gentlemen of the court.'
Dreymor says 'These are trying times for us all.'
Caius walks in from the south.
Rud, the bay horse walks in from the south.
Caius sits down.
The lord high justicar asks 'What do you want?'
Dreymor says 'And to believe that one man evil enough to steal from others and then turn right back around and steal from them again would not be even lower enough to stab one in the back to make his job easier.'
Eltsac looks at Phlow.
Dreymor says 'Would be a grave mistake for all of us to make.'
Dreymor says 'Be it known that in these times a man is guilty untill proven inacent'
Dreymor says 'And if a high priest accuses you are something then that accusation goes along way.'
Dreymor says 'When the high Paladin of the lands stands here in front of you and tells you of reports that have come from well respected persons of murder and attempted murder, then you had best believe him.'
Dreymor says 'True this guard has probubly been worked almost to death but that work is only to benifit the citizens of thie great city.'
