DESCRIPTIONS

Your characters description is very important on Forgotten Kingdoms. It should describe the appearance of your character. It should be well formatted and not contain spelling errors that could detract from the roleplay of looking at your character.

Your description should contain:

It should NOT contain the following:

An Immortal can request you change your description if it contains inappropriate material. Failure to comply will mean you will not be allowed to play on Forgotten Kingdoms. As Forgotten Kingdoms is a roleplay mud we place alot of importance on a description. Your description once it is set should not be changed unlessed asked to by an admin or extreme roleplay situation calls for it.

If you are having difficulty working out what to put into your description then ask on question and a member of the immortal staff or newbie council will be happy to help you.

Colour in descriptions

You have the ability to use colour in descriptions. You are required to use no more than two colours in a description (including the base colour). It is the feeling of the administrators of the game that excessive colour is tacky and detracts from roleplay when someone tries to look at you and is dazzled by the colour instead. Colour should enhance rather than detract. The ideal is to choose one colour and stick with it.

For instance a dwarf may choose brown as the colour of their description or an elf may choose green. Use colour to enhance your description not detract from it. If an immortal asks you to change the colours in your description you are to do so immediately.

Betandor's guide to a good description

Many players seem to be confused about what makes a good description for Forgotten Kingdoms. The following general guidelines should assist in writing acceptable descriptions, and still allow the flexibility to give players the ability to make unique characters.

For information, the website Dungeon Masters Haven, has an excellent article about quirks for a PC. Click on the link for NPC Quirks on this web site.

ADJECTIVE

The adjective replaces your default descriptive adjectives based on your appearance with one of your choosing. Be aware that it must be under 25 characters in length, and once you change your adjective, it cannot be changed again. You cannot set your adjective after level 25.

The adjective replaces the one to two describing words of your character. You can find out what your current adjective is by glancing at yourself or fingering yourself.

A tall slender female human is here.

The adjective would replace the words "tall" and "slender". You keep the articles, sex and race.

An adjective should not be a feeling or an emotion. For instance changing your adjective to "grinning" would not be appropriate as your character will not always be so. It does not look right in a roleplay when A grinning male halfling starts to sob. The best tactic is to choose an attribute of your character that stands out. For instance hair colour, skin colour, eye colour scars and so on.

Betandor's Guide to a Good Adjective

There have been questions about the use of the adjective command. A good adjective should describe your character AT ALL TIMES. Adjectives meant to give your character an appearance which would change during stressful, threatening, or resting situations should not be used. You might argue, and some have tried, "My character doesn't ever rest or sleep, only meditates." Look at your logged out time as rest and sleep in this case if you must. However, to be in the proper mindset for meditation, most people have to turn inward and find their inner focus. They have no interest or knowledge of thier surroundings, and hence would cease to have many of the adjective traits that many people first think of for their characters.

As another example, many characters who play evil seem to want the adjective menacing or something which means the same thing, and those who play good alignment always seem to want kind or some other similar word to describe them. These are two examples of suspect adjectives, because no one can be manacing all of the time, or kind all of the time either. If there were a deity standing in the room, chances are, the menace would drop right out of a mortal, otherwise they'd end up in the Abyss or worse. At the same time, it is hard to be labelled kind by everyone and everything, when most of the advancement through the Realms is done by killing mobiles to complete quests and gain experience and money. Instead of choosing an adjective which changes to fit situations such as those listed above, try choosing something which is a bit more permenant. For example, a physical feature, green eyed, grey haired, willowy, stumpy, hook-nosed, ect. Use things from your long description. Be original, and choose something that will make your character stand out. If the Immortals realize that you have taken the time to choose an adjective that fits and you play well, often no one else who creates characters will be able to have that adjective, as the Immortals would rather have different creative words, even if it all means the same thing. The different adjectives thus created will give greater enjoyment of roleplay, and allow someone to speak to someone else in crowded rooms without everyone being "A tall strong male half-elf", or something else similar

TITLE

The title command allows you to set your title to the text of your choice. The title is what is seen about you after your name when a player types who on the who listing. The game supplies a title when your character is created. Your title should state your name and your profession/occupation. It should not be a statement of what you are currently doing. It should not sound like a want add.

For instance the following would be acceptable:

Additionally your title should be an understandable sentence so that if a mobile says it or yells it as they sometimes are wont to do, it make sense. Your title should be in character, and while the information can be used IC, you need to determine if your character would know such a thing about the character in question. The title is information that could be gained by heresay for instance.

** Titles are subject to the same guidelines for use of language as channels
** If an immortal asks you to change it do so immediately.
The title default system is being removed from the game. If you elect to use it then you should still make sure that the title is appropriate for your character.
