Marriage and Weddings
There are occassions where one character will meet another and fall in love and wish to get married. We ask that when you roleplay the relationship you do so within the guidelines laid out in help sex.
Marriage is a serious commitment and requires a great deal of roleplay as well as a great deal of staff intervention for weddings. In light of this, the following policy is now in place for weddings.
Handfasting
Before you can be married you must be handfasted. To become handfasted both parties must send in an email to weddings@forgottenkingdoms.com with a subject of 'Handfasting of PC(A) and PC(B). Any email sent to another address will most likely be missed and will result in not being approved. There must be something in the body of the email that gives a brief overview of the situation between the two wishing to be handfasted. If a blank email is sent, it will simply be deleted. If there is in unusual situation involved that might require an application, for a special RP, you must include your application in the email.
Once the email has been recieved and approval is given, both parties must meet with the Wedding Coordinator in the offices in Waterdeep or Zhentil Keep. The cost to become handfasted is ten platinum. Once the fee has been paid to the Wedding Coordinator the handfasting time period begins. This time period is thirty (30) RL days and may not be waived. You may only be handfasted to one person at a time and the dissolving of a handfasting is not automatic.
You may not RP that you are handfasted or engaged until you have received a reply that the handfasting is approved. Once one party has sent in a handfasting email, the other party must submit their email within seven days, or the application will be denied and the couple must wait 30 days before applying again.
You cannot be married to someone else and get handfasted.Both parties must send in an email to dissolve a handfasting to weddings@forgottenkingdoms.com with a title of Handfasting Dissolved PC(A) and PC(B). The only exception is if one of the couple has not logged in for 90 RL days, then an email to dissolve the handfasting will be accepted. Once a handfasting has been dissolved, you must wait thirty (30) RL days to handfast to someone else.
You must have at least 25 current kismet to become handfasted. This is only a requirement, the kismet is not deducted.
WEDDING CEREMONY
After the handfasting period is finished a wedding may take place. There are several options for weddings and packages are offered. Fees for the wedding must be paid in advance. You can only be married to one person at a time.
Wedding Packages Available:
- No Frills Wedding
- The cost of a no frills wedding is 10 platinum. This is the do-it-yourself option. It involves just the recording of the wedding as a fact. You must provide the place, the refreshments, no announcement on the board and no imm protection to keep it nice RP. This option is the only one open to characters with a strike.
- Simple Wedding
- The cost of a simple wedding is 30 platinum. Ten invitations, use of a chapel that is open for a simple package, an announcement of the wedding on the calendar. Please find details of what chapels offer what packages IC. A small gift provided for the guests is included. You must provide a PC priest for the ceremony. There is a cost of 50 kismet from each PC for this option.
- Small Wedding
- The cost of a small wedding is 50 platinum. Fifteen invitations, use of a chapel that is open for a simple or small package, an announcement of the wedding on the calendar. Access to a wedding flower shop will be provided with this package. Please find details of what chapels offer what packages IC. A small gift provided for the guests. You must provide PC priest for the ceremony. There is a cost of 50 kismet from each PC for this option.
- Medium Wedding
- The cost of a medium wedding is 100 platinum . Twenty invitations, use of a chapel that is open for simple, small, or medium weddings, an announcement on the calendar. Access to a wedding flower and clothing shops will be provided with this package. Please find details of what chapels offer what packages IC. A small gift provided for the guests is included. You must prove PC priest for the ceremony. There is a cost of 50 kismet from each PC for this option.
- Deluxe Wedding
- The cost of a deluxe wedding is 150 platinum. Twenty-five invitations, use of any chapel that is ICly appropriate, an announcement on the calendar, access to a wedding flower, clothing, and jewelry shops will be provided with this package. A small gift provided for the guests is included. You must prove PC priest for the ceremony. There is a cost of 50 kismet from each PC for this option.
- Divorce
- The only way for a wedding to be dissolved is through divorce. Divorce costs 100 platinum. Both must send in an email to weddings@forgottenkingdoms.com with the subject Divorce PC(A) and PC(B), the only exception being if the other character has not logged on in 90 RL days. The fee is not waived in this situation, it still must be paid. After a divorce is granted, the divorced character cannot become handfasted for 60 RL days. There is a cost of 100 kismet for a divorce. This can come from only one of the PCs if the other has not logged on in 90 RL days. If one of the PCs has been deleted, then the remaining PC is free to RP that the other PC has died and is under none of the constraints of time or money. There is no kismet cost for this circumstance. If one of the PCs is sitebanned and the remaining PC has no strikes, they may obtain send in a divorce application and a divorce will be granted 90 days after the aknowledgement of the application. There will be no fee for this scenario. There is no kismet cost for this circumstance.
