OBJECTS AND STEALING

If you notice an item on the ground and there is a player in the room with it, do _not_ pick it up without first getting permission from the person or persons in the room. Taking such items may be considered stealing if you do not first obtain permission from those present.

Do not take items from a mob corpse unless you made the kill yourself or you have specific permission from the character who made the kill. This includes removing gold from a corpse. If you do take items without permission be prepared to face the in character consequences of your actions.

If it is part of your characters nature to steal then you may do any of the above and know that you will be considered to be stealing.

Warning: It is never wise to leave items or containers unattended and expect them to be there when you return. If there is an item on the ground and there is neither a character corpse nor a player in the room, the object is considered abandoned and free for the taking.

The steal command attempts to steal coins, or an object, from a mob or another player. If you fail at stealing you could be reported. This means that you are more likely to be bounty hunted or arrested within cities. In order to steal successfully, you must train the skill. You may only steal what is in another PC's or Mobs inventory. What is worn is safe from thieves. If you steal something, then be prepared to roleplay it out. This means do not immediately go and sell the items. You must give the other player a chance to roleplay its retreival.

You should also consider the item that you are stealing. Pick-pocketing a few coins or a small item, has little chance of being noticed as being gone if someone with some skill steals the item. Stealing a large full pack of goodies would be near impossible from a conscious being.

When looking a character corpse, you may not loot the whole thing even though it may seem to be in character to do so. OOC this is a hurtful action to the other player. As such we limit players to looting no more than two items from a player corpse. You may not sell these items immediately, but prepared for any roleplay consequences that your actions might bring about.

Stealing in Waterdeep goes against our nice roleplay in Waterdeep policy. See help file on waterdeep roleplay.

Also stealing from shapechanged characters is considered abuse of the shapechange code.
